DARREL B. ADDINGTON

Construction Contract Formation; Claims Avoidance and Adjudication; Litigation of Real Estate, Commercial, Personnel, and Construction Disputes.

Professional Experience:

Mr. Addington served as a clerk to Federal District Judge Robert L. Taylor from 1968 to 1969 and was an attorney in the Judge Advocate General Corps, U.S. Army, from 1969 to 1973. He was a Deputy Prosecutor for Pierce County, Washington, from 1973 to 1975. He joined a predecessor of Vandeberg Johnson & Gandara in 1975. He was admitted to the Tennessee State Bar in 1969 and to the Washington State Bar in 1973.

JD 1968, University of Tennessee School of Law; BA 1966, University of Tennessee.

Honors and Awards:

High undergraduate honors. Member of the Law Review. Member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Beta Kappa.

Mr. Addington is a member of the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, and Bar Sections on Trial Practice, Litigation, Public Contract Law, Procurement and Construction Law. He was Secretary to the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association Forum Committee on the Construction Industry.

Community Service:

Mr. Addington has served as president of the Tacoma Community House Board of Directors and as past-president and vice president of the Pierce County Alliance Board. He has also been a United Way volunteer.

JOHN H. BINNS, JR.

Areas of Concentration:

School Districts, Administrative and Municipal Law, Employment and Labor Issues. Became of counsel to the firm in January 2004 and continues to practice on a part time basis.

Professional Experience:

Mr. Binns practiced with Perkins Coie in Seattle from 1964 through 1994 and became a partner in that firm in 1972. He joined Vandeberg Johnson & Gandara as a principal in 1995. He was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1964.

LLB 1964, University of Washington; AB 1956, Stanford University.

Honors and Awards:

Member of the Board of Editors of the Washington Law Review from 1961 to 1963. Member of the Order of the Coif.

Professional Affiliations:

Mr. Binns is a member of the Washington Council of School Attorneys and served as its president in 1988-1989. From 1994 until 2002, he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Education Law at the University of Puget Sound School of Education. He has been a frequent speaker in programs concerning school, labor and constitutional law and has written a number of papers on those subjects. He has served on several committees of the King County Bar Association, including the Judiciary and Courts Committee, 1986-1989, and the Judicial Screening Committee, 1989-1992.

KERRY E. BRINK

Areas of Concentration:

Estate Planning, Probate and Guardianships.

Professional Experience:

Before being admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1988, Ms. Brink served as a community psychologist for three years in Neu Ulm, Germany. Ms. Brink has been in private practice since graduating from law school and joined Vandeberg Johnson & Gandara in October 1993 where she works part-time with the firm.

Professional Affiliations:

Ms. Brink is admitted to the U.S. Tax Court and is a member of Bar Sections on Taxation, Estate Planning and Elder Law. She has served as Treasurer for the Washington State Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and has served as Chairperson for the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association Guardianship Committee. In 1994, Ms. Brink successfully completed the Elder Law Certification process sponsored by the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Ms. Brink has spoken frequently to community groups and professional groups on issues related to elder law and estate taxation.

Community Service:

Ms. Brink was a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Tacoma Youth Symphony, served on the Advisory Board of the American Cancer Society, received the City of Destiny Award for Leadership in Tacoma-Pierce County in 1991, and is actively involved in her young son's educational and extracurricular activities. She served on the Board of Directors of Northwest Trek Foundation.

CHARLES R. BUSH

Public and private employer advice and representation concerning Workers' Compensation, Industrial Insurance, Workplace Safety, Unemployment Compensation, and Personal Injury.

Professional Experience:

Mr. Bush served as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge John C. Bowen, 1967-68. He was an Assistant Attorney General in the Seattle Labor and Industries Division for 17 years and a partner at Preston Gates & Ellis, Seattle, before he joined Vandeberg Johnson & Gandara in 1996. He was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1968.
